Susanne Bisovsky

Born in Linz, fashion designer Susanne Bisovsky studied with Vivienne Westwood, worked with Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Helmut Lang and designed for Kathleen Madden. In 1990 she founded her own label for couture and ready-to-wear, which she has run together with Joseph Bonwit Gerger since 2000. Her world of clothing unfolds its implosive impact between chic and shame, blasphemy and innocence. Her programme is »Viennese Chic«, the tenor is »dowry«, the substance »everlasting«, according to the artist, who has established herself beyond all fashion mainstreams with her special approach of working on individual pieces often over a period of years, and placing them in a completely new context. In 2010, Susanne Bisovsky designed the uniforms for the staff of the Austrian pavilion at EXPO Shanghai. She has also collaborated with Swarovski, Lobmeyr, Backhausen, the Augarten and Herend porcelain manufactories and the Koó blue print shop. In the theatre sector, she has worked for the Salzburg Festival in 2014 and La Scala di Milano in 2017. In 2020 Susanne Bisovksy was awarded the Austrian State Prize »Outstanding Artist Award« in the category fashion design. In 2022 she published the book »Wiener Chic – Susanne Bisovsky. Mode für eine große Stadt«. At the Vienna State Opera, her costumes for Martin Schläpfer’s ballet »Marsch, Walzer, Polka« could be seen for the first time in 2021/22 as part of the premiere »Im siebten Himmel«. In addition, Susanne Bisovsky will be responsible for the costumes of the dancers of the Vienna State Ballet at the Opera Ball on February 16, 2023.
