Der Tod in Venedig

Dress rehearsal

In German language with German surtitles

The aging poet Gustav von Aschenbach travels to Venice where he falls in love with the beauty of the young Polish boy Tadzio. But an invisible danger looms and there are rumours that cholera has afflicted the town’s lagoon.

Benjamin Britten created one of his most dense and unfathomable works with his final opera in 1973, which will be performed at the Vienna Volksoper, in a staging by David McVicar.
