Accessibility statement
In accordance with Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2018/1523 of 11 October 2018 establishing a model accessibility statement pursuant to Directive (EU) 2016/2102 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the accessibility of the websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies.
Accessibility statement
Volksoper Wien endeavours to ensure that its website complies with the Web Accessibility Act (German acronym: WZG) as amended, which implements Directive (EU) 2016/2102 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 October 2016 on accessibility of the websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies (OJ L 327 of 2 December 2016, p. 1).
This accessibility statement applies to the website www.volksoper.at.
Degree of conformity with the requirements
The website largely complies with conformance level AA of the "Web Content Accessibility Guidelines Web - WCAG 2.1" or the applicable European standard EN 301 549 V2.1.2 (2018-08), but there are some incompatibilities and exceptions.
General information
The website meets the requirements for sufficient contrast if increased contrast is activated in the user's system settings (prefers-contrast: more).
To optimise performance, there is sometimes a delay when content is loaded (lazy loading). The markup of the website is valid upon completion and complies with WCAG 4.1.1.
For the picture galleries of our productions, we have decided to provide an overall description of the impression of the set and atmosphere of the production instead of individual picture descriptions, as we believe this is more helpful for people with visual impairments.
Non-accessible content
The contents listed below are not accessible for the following reasons:
Non-conformity with accessibility regulations
For a few images, the alternative text is missing due to the lack of editorial content, so that this information is not accessible for screen reader users. This means that WCAG success criterion 1.1.1 (text alternatives for non-text content) is not met. We endeavour to provide complete content for all images, but in everyday editorial work some images may lack alternative texts.
Most of our videos contain subtitles. For editorial reasons, subtitles or transcripts were not included for a few videos, as they did not appear to make sense. This means that WCAG success criteria 1.2.1 and 1.2.3 (transcripts) and 1.2.2 (subtitles recorded) are (intentionally) not met for individual videos.
In individual cases, terms or parts of text in other languages are present on the website and are not labelled with the corresponding lang attribute. This means that WCAG success criterion 3.1.2 (language of parts) is not fully met. The reason for this non-conformity is the lack of technical support.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 23 September 2022 and updated on 19 November 2025.
The assessment of the website's compliance with the requirements of Directive (EU) 2016/2102 took the form of an assessment of the basic components of selected websites carried out in 2022 by a third party (Getdesigned GmbH), via an evaluation in accordance with WCAG 2.1 AA.
