Music theatre is queer. This is not a woke attribution, but an observation that runs through the entire history of music. In this concert evening, ensemble member Katia Ledoux embarks on a musical search for traces, questioning the canon about its gender ambivalences, poetic ruptures, and hidden narratives.

From Cherubino’s desire for the Countess to the mockery surrounding Rameau’s Platée, sung by a man; from Brahms’s Sapphic Ode to the poetically encoded works of queer composers such as Barber or Poulenc, a multifaceted programme unfolds between the opera stage and the song recital. Trouser roles, same-sex love, and the dissolution of fixed categories turn the music-theatre stage into a space of possibility.

The mezzo-soprano guides the audience through the evening, vocally and intellectually.
