Alongside the three traditional performances of Die Fledermaus during the holiday season, the Volksoper Wien is embracing another beloved Viennese tradition this year with its very own New Year's Concert. Under the musical direction of Asher Fisch, audiences can enjoy highlights from the classic Viennese operetta repertoire, ranging from Johann Strauss to the operettas of the twentieth century by Robert Stolz and Eduard Künneke. The programme also ventures beyond Vienna, tracing the roots of operetta back to France with works by Jacques Offenbach, and crossing the Atlantic to Broadway with music by George Gershwin. A New Year's greeting from Astor Piazzolla completes this varied musical journey, sending audiences into the new year with warmth and good wishes.
Featuring the Orchestra of the Volksoper Wien and soloists from the ensemble as well as member of our Opera Studio.
