The unexpected passing of our beloved and highly esteemed colleague, KS Josef Luftensteiner, on 24 August 2026 has filled us with profound grief. The Chairman of the Works Council of the Volksoper, and a member of the Supervisory Boards of Bundestheater-Holding and the Volksoper, passed away in Vienna on 24 August 2026 after a long and serious illness.

He was the heart of the Volksoper and a truly kind and compassionate person who always fought for the well-being of our theatre. We are deeply shaken by this tremendous loss. For more than 38 years, KS Josef Luftensteiner shaped the fortunes and development of the Volksoper like no one else.

We will therefore honour his memory with a solemn Requiem during a matinée at the Volksoper on 27 September, to which we cordially invite you.
