Welcome to murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery, betrayal and lots of jazz!
In one word: welcome to the musical Chicago!
I’m playing Roxie Hart. After killing her lover, Roxie ends up in prison. There, she meets Velma Kelly, played by Myrthes Monteiro.
Velma is Chicago’s most famous murderess and a media sensation. Once released, she plans to work together with Mama Morton to launch a dazzling showbiz career!
But she didn’t see me coming! Anything Velma can do, I can do just as well!
Lawyer Billy Flynn and journalist Mary Sunshine will make me the next star of the murderess scene.
But there’s only room for one murderess chasing fame and glory, even in a city as big as Chicago.
Maybe Velma and Roxie should team up?
The musical is based on real-life murder cases involving two women, basically, true crime meets musical theatre.
In 1975, John Kander and Fred Ebb created a musical about our thirst for sensational stories and the darker side of human nature.
All set to thrilling music and spectacular choreography, with plenty of razzle-dazzle!
Musical expert Gareth Valentine will conduct the premiere. Lotte de Beer directs the show with choreographer Arielle Smith.
They show just how much we love being entertained by stories about the dark side of human nature.
We’re swept away by music and jazz, then stumble over a dead body the very next moment.
Come and stumble with us!
Now at the Volksoper!
