Short Introduction Der Zarewitsch

Director Steef de Jong: „Hello, dear audience. For many years it has been my dream to stage Lehár’s operetta “Der Zarewitsch”. We tell a story through music, film and animation, created from hundreds of individual drawings. The young heir Aljoscha feels lonely at court. He longs for someone to end his loneliness. One day he secretly goes to a small theatre. There he sees someone on stage who instantly stirs his feelings. Slowly, the two fall in love. But their love has no future at court. The Grand Duke pressures the Zarewitsch into a suitable marriage. The two lovers flee … of course to Naples! In Italy they want to live and love freely. But the past catches up with them. Alongside this tragic couple there are also two servants: Iwan and Mascha. And this couple has their own turbulent, comic love story! Us – that is myself and four singers – together with the choir and the orchestra will tell this story for you. Come along – you’ve never seen or heard operetta like this!”
