Die Fledermaus - Junge Volksoper: Who is who?
„Hello, do you also watch „Die Fledermaus” by Strauss? No... by Johann Strauss! In this video I'll tell you who is actually who. This is the lawyer Dr. Hawk. He wants revenge. Why? To do this we have to go back in time a few years. Falke and his friend Gabriel von Eisenstein go to a masked ball together. Eisenstein is disguised as a butterfly and Falke as a bat. At dawn, Eisenstein leaves Falke alone, completely drunk. Falke is laughed at by everyone and embarrasses himself. and years later he finally wants to take revenge for it. And this is exactly where the piece begins. Today Eisenstein has to go to prison for a few days for insulting a police officer. The singer Alfred, the childhood sweetheart of Eisenstein's wife Rosalinde, senses his chance. He wants to come visit Rosalinde as soon as Eisenstein is in custody. Meanwhile, Adele, the Eisensteins' maid, receives a letter inviting her to Prince Orlofsky's party. The letter is signed by her sister Ida, but actually comes from Falke. He forges his revenge plan against Eisenstein and invites him to the party too. Eisenstein can be persuaded to go to the festival instead of being arrested. When everyone but Rosalinde has left the house, Alfred sneaks in to seduce Rosalinde. But then the prison director Frank shows up to arrest Eisenstein. Alfred pretends to be Eisenstein so as not to expose Rosalinde. At his party, the extremely rich Prince Orlofsky complains that he can no longer laugh. Falke promises to cheer him up with his revenge production. Shortly afterwards, Eisenstein, Adele and Frank appear at the party, as does Rosalinde, dressed as a Hungarian countess. Eisenstein doesn't recognize his wife but wants to seduce her with his expensive watch. But Rosalinde secures the watch as evidence of his infidelity. And so, the revenge takes its course and the celebration lasts until the early hours of the morning. After the party, Director Frank staggers to his office in the prison, still drunk. When the real Eisenstein appears there, the great confusion begins. Shortly afterwards, Adele and Ida go to prison because they want Frank to finance Adele's training to become an artist. And when Rosalinde shows up there to make sure her affair with Alfred isn't exposed, chaos is complete. Also, what does a frog do in prison? No... the prison guard Liselotte Frosch, of course. And will Falke actually finally get his revenge? Or was it all just the champagne's fault in the end? Ah, shit! You see that in the operetta „Die Fledermaus”. See you then!“
