Short Introduction Killing Carmen

Anton Zetterholm (Don Jose) and Katia Ledoux (Carmen): „Anton: We can hardly wait! Katia: Wait, for what? Anton: Well, “Killing Carmen”! Katia: You’ve never seen Carmen like this before! Anton: And that coming from you, who already sang Carmen here at the Volksoper! But what makes “Killing Carmen” different? Katia: Thirteen years after Carmen’s death, the survivors meet again. They ask: How did it come to this? What has happened since then? And what is missing, now that Carmen is gone? Anton: All of it in the style of a Western, powerful, funny, moving. Katia: It’s like a mix of opera, musical, jazz, flamenco, and much more. Anton: That’s exactly what we love – we come from opera and musical ourselves. Katia: And our ensemble adds acting and many other influences on stage. As diverse as only the Volksoper can be! Anton: And then this team – Nils Strunk and Lukas Schrenk, whose “The Magic Flute – the opera but not the opera” and “Schachnovelle” at the Burgtheater were completely sold out. Katia: We’re thrilled that they, together with us and musician Gabriel Cazes, bring another classic to the stage in a totally new way. Already at the Donauinselfest preview, the crowd cheered like at a rock concert! Anton: Come to the Volksoper! You definitely don’t want to miss “Killing Carmen”!”
