Yuri Taguchi

When were you first enchanted by (musical) theatre? What was the experience?

My first experience was when I watched my first The Magic Flute at Berlin Staatsoper. I instantly loved the music, the singing, and how the orchestra sounded. It is still my favorite opera to this day.

My second experience that threw me way deep into the world of opera was watching the rehearsals for La Traviata in Japan. I fell in love with the way opera so precisely depicts/comments on emotions of each character through music. This love for opera eventually lead me to studying conducting.  

What does an audience give to a performer?

Concentration, energy, atmosphere, warmth… so many more. 

Prima la musica or prima le parole?

I cannot choose because both are extremely important! I always look for ways to somehow let both music and text shine.
