Chie Ishimoto

Chie Ishimoto was born in Tokyo and studied piano there, first at the High School of Toho Gakuen School of Music and then at the Toho Gakuen School of Music until 2001, where she majored in piano. In 2003, she won the “Special mention Ravel” at the 4th Concours Grieg, the international piano competition in Oslo. Since 2014, Chie Ishimoto has been working at the Volksoper Vienna, where her duties include keyboard duties in the orchestra as well as solo piano and chamber music programmes. She has also been a solo accompanist with conducting duties since 2018. She has also worked repeatedly at the Vienna State Opera, such as in 2016 as a piano soloist at the Nureyev Gala, where she interpreted Louis Moreau Gottschalkʼs Grand Tarantelle to the choreography of George Balanchineʼs Tarantella, and in 2024 she took over keyboard duties at Animal Farm. At the Salzburg Festival in 2018 and 2022, she was responsible for keyboard duties with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
