Julian Rachlin conducts Le nozze di Figaro

Marco Arturo Marelli's production of Mozart and Da Ponte's opera finally returns to the repertoire, for the first time in Italian language. (Find a synopsis in English language here)

Marelli's production tells the story in beautiful sets, leaves the action in its time and yet draws attention to the work's topicality: power relations are called into question, a daring move at the time of the premiere. A lot of wordplay and situation comedy still amuse us today.

Julian Rachlin, an acclaimed and award-winning musician, conducts the performances of Mozart's masterpiece. He visited the Volksoper countless times as a child, saw many different opera and operetta performances. Now the violinist and conductor, who has long since become a star, is making his debut on the podium of the Volksoper Orchestra.

Julian Rachlin began his career as a violonist at a young age, performing with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra as the youngest soloist to date and working with renowned conductors all over the world. As a conductor, too, he makes guest appearances all over the world and dedicates himself entirely to music, for example as the founder of his own music festival or as the director of the "Herbstgold" festival. Conducting Mozart at the Volksoper, he translates his conviction into music: "The great operettas and operas of music history are masterpieces that have always thrilled people and will continue to do so! Musical theatre is a great experience and adventure for all generations."

Performances with Julian Rachlin on 29 January, 3, 6 and 12 February 2023.
