Bizet’s classic opera Carmen tells a story of love, jealousy, and the struggle of a strong woman for a self-determined life. In Lotte de Beer’s production, the focus is on the question of how Carmen can free herself from the role assigned to her by both society and operatic tradition.
Nils Strunk and Lukas Schrenk – two of today’s most sought-after theatre artists – together with musician Gabriel Cazes, pick up the thread and bring the opera’s characters back to the stage years later in Killing Carmen. On the day Don José is to be executed for Carmen’s murder, the figures meet again in Lillas Pastia’s tavern and ask: How could this tragedy happen? What void does Carmen leave behind? And how does the story continue?
While Bizet’s Carmen sometimes borders on operetta before soaring into grand tragedy, Killing Carmen blends the opera’s famous melodies with a wide range of styles: jazz, flamenco, western, musical, pop, chanson, and much more. With the combo ticket, you experience the story not only from two narrative perspectives but also through two distinct musical worlds!

On sale from 1 September 2025, 10:00 a.m. at all advance ticket offices, by phone with credit card (01/513 1 513), and online.

How to book the combo ticket online
- Click on the following link: Book combo ticket online.
- You can change the language setting to English by clicking on the small flag icon at the bottom right and selecting English.
- Click on "Buy tickets"
- Select 2 performances of your choice from the list.
- At the bottom of the page, click on “Next”
- On the seating plan, choose the desired number of seats for the first performance.
- Click on “Next venue” or the arrow to the right of the title of the first performance.
- The seating plan for the second performance will now appear.
- Again, select the desired number of seats.
- Click on “Add to shopping cart.”
- Please make sure to select the same number of seats for each performance – only then can you book the combo ticket
- A summary page will appear where you can review your selection
- Confirm that you have read the General Terms and Conditions and click “Continue.” You will then be guided through the payment process
- If you are not already logged in, you can now sign in and proceed with payment.
