We are committed to making the theatre experience as inclusive and accessible as possible. Through a range of tailored services, we aim to welcome audiences with a wide variety of access needs and ensure that everyone can enjoy performances at the Volksoper Wien.
Discounts
Visitors with a recognised disability (50% or more) are entitled to a 50% discount upon presentation of a valid disability ID. This applies to tickets purchased at the daytime and evening box office from the start of advance booking. For further details, please visit the “Discounts” section on our website.
Wheelchair Spaces
The Volksoper offers two purpose-built wheelchair spaces in the stalls, each with an accompanying companion seat. These seats are located to the left and right of row 19 and must be booked together. ubject to advance booking (at least 10 days prior to the performance), up to 12 additional wheelchair spaces without companion seating can be made available per performance.
Wheelchair spaces are available at a fixed price of €4; no additional concessions apply. One wheelchair seat and one wheelchair companion seat in the 10th row on the left are also available on a case-by-case basis. These have the prices of category II.
Wheelchair seats can be purchased at the ticket offices and online or pre-ordered by e-mail to tickets@volksoper.at. To be activated to purchase wheelchair seats on the Internet, please contact our information desk on +43/1/514 44-3670 (Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 16:00). For technical reasons, it is currently not possible to purchase wheelchair spaces by telephone using a credit card. We ask for your understanding!
For safety and regulatory reasons, wheelchair users are required to use the designated spaces in the stalls. Access to other seating areas with a wheelchair is not permitted.
Please also note that, for the same reasons, events held in the balcony foyer and gallery foyer (including pre-performance talks) are not accessible to wheelchair users. We appreciate your understanding.
Step-Free Access
The Volksoper Wien offers step-free access to the building. A dedicated accessible entrance with a doorbell and ramp is located to the left of the main entrance, providing access to the box office foyer and auditorium. An accessible toilet is available in the stalls area, to the right of the cloakrooms.
A designated accessible parking space is located on Lustkandlgasse, directly in front of the main entrance (access via Fuchsthallergasse).
Blue badge holders may also park free of charge and without time restrictions in short-stay parking zones.
Registered guide dogs are welcome throughout the building and auditorium.
Hearing Support
We are committed to enhancing the experience for audiences with hearing impairments. Auracast is a Bluetooth-based technology that allows high-quality audio to be streamed directly to compatible hearing aids, cochlear implants or headphones. With a compatible device, you can connect easily and enjoy the performance at a personalised volume level.
Available from September 2026.
Relaxed Performance
On 2 May 2027 at 11.00 am, a relaxed performance of the family matinee Der Krieg der Knöpfe will take place in collaboration with the Austrian Autism Association.
Relaxed performances are adapted to create a more comfortable environment for neurodivergent audiences (including people with autism or ADHD), as well as those with learning disabilities or additional needs. These performances are open to everyone.
